The Peder Hedberg Foundation supports Christian camping and work that values and uplifts children with disabilities.
Peder Hedberg was a very active, vital, “live life to the fullest” kind of guy. He was struck with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and Cholangiocarcinoma at age 22 and fought these diseases for a year until his death in March of 2010, at age 23. Peder loved children and spent his summers working at either South Suburban Special Recreation Association day camps or Pilgrim Pines Conference Center. It was evident that Peder loved kids and they also loved him, as did their parents. Before Peder’s death he had decided to get a teaching certificate so he could teach elementary education professionally. Peder’s family and friends have established The Peder Hedberg Foundation to carry on his dreams and to honor his memory.
The Peder Hedberg Foundation exists to fund programs that support children and families through the ministries of not-for-profit Christian Camps and Conference Centers, not-for-profit programs working with children with disabilities, and not-for-profit organizations that advance elementary education.
The two organizations that have been selected to receive funds initially are SSSRA and Pilgrim Pines.
SSSRA (South Suburban Special Recreation Association), Tinley Park, IL is a therapeutic recreation program serving individuals with disabilities and special needs. Ten south suburban Chicago communities are part of the SSSRA region.
Pilgrim Pines Conference Center, Swanzey, NH, is a combination of Camp Squanto, Mayflower Family Camp, Retreat Center and Campground. Pilgrim Pines Conference Center ministers to children and families providing recreation and spiritual growth for persons of all ages.
The board consists of 12 members including family and friends of Peder who know and understand his love for life and the dreams he wished to pursue.
Through direct contributions and fund raising events.
